DEAL contracts

Thanks to the transformative nationwide DEAL agreements with the publishers Wiley, Springer Nature and Elsevier, researchers at more than 1,000 DEAL institutions in Germany publish directly Open Access in thousands of quality-checked journals in all disciplines.

Find out more about the background and goals of DEAL.

What do you have to do if you want to publish with one of the publishers?

  • You must be the corresponding author of the article and submit your article directly to the journal.
  • By participating in DEAL, your article will be published in Open Access after acceptance and corresponding confirmation on your part.
  • For the first two hybrid Open Access publications (per first author or corresponding author) in a year, authors pay an additional €700 per publication. The remaining amount is covered by the University Library.
  • The additional payment does not apply in the case of third-party funding for the research project from which the publication originated, as indicated in the acknowledgements. The University Library bears the entire costs.
  • ATTENTION: The additional payment of €700 must also be made for closed-access publications!
  • Costs in pure (Gold) Open Access journals are fully covered by the university library up to €2000 (only applies to the first two Open Access publications per year). The funding conditions of the publication fund apply.
  • From the 3rd Open Access publication onwards (per first author or corresponding author), the costs must be borne in full by the institute.
  • In addition to publication in the respective journal, the Open Access article will also be available on our publication server.
