DEAL contracts

Thanks to the transformative nationwide DEAL agreements with the publishers Wiley, Springer Nature and Elsevier, researchers at more than 1,000 DEAL institutions in Germany publish directly Open Access in thousands of quality-checked journals in all disciplines.

Find out more about the background and goals of DEAL.

What do you have to do if you want to publish with one of the publishers?

  • You must be the corresponding author of the article and submit your article directly to the journal.
  • By participating in DEAL, your article will be published in Open Access after acceptance and corresponding confirmation on your part.
  • The costs for the first two Open Access publications (per first author or corresponding author) per year are shared equally between the University Library and the publishing institute.
  • ATTENTION: The same costs are incurred for closed access publications, which are also shared equally between the University Library and the publishing institute.
  • From the 3rd Open Access publication onwards (per first author or corresponding author), the costs must be borne in full by the institute.
  • Costs in pure Open Access journals are fully covered by the university library up to 2000 euros (only applies to the first two Open Access publications per year).
  • In addition to publication in the respective journal, the Open Access article will also be available on our publication server.
